THREE BRILLIANT IDEAS

Weaning us off our addiction to fossil fuels is not going to be easy. However, some very interesting proposals have been made in recent years which promise to cut through many of the social, political and ethical complexities:

• At the international level, the concept of Contraction and Convergence is winning widespread support and has much to recommend it.
• One version of C & C is the Kyoto2 proposals developed by Oliver Tickell.
• Another version is a system of Personal Carbon Allowances.
