BINGE DRINKING
Here is a possible answer to the problem of binge drinking:
- Anyone convicted of being drunk and disorderly would have their name and photograph posted on a special website set up for the purpose of publicising such convictions.
- Every publican would be required, by law, to download each picture, print it at a certain size, and display it in a prominent place in each bar, with the name of the offender underneath.
- Every publican would be required by law to refuse to serve alcohol to anyone whose name and photograph was displayed in the pub.
This scheme should be effective in preventing the people with convictions from buying any more alcohol in pubs. More importantly, it would provide a powerful incentive to everyone else to avoid binge drinking and thus avoid the risk of being convicted of drunk and disorderly conduct and having their name and picture displayed in that way. A few example convictions should be enough.
If necessary, the scheme may be extended to off-licences and supermarkets.
